5 signs your robot vacuum battery needs replacing

By Carolyn Ade Groat · Updated October 29, 2026

1. Shorter cleaning runs

If your robot used to finish the whole floor and now returns to the dock halfway through, capacity has dropped.

2. It won't leave the dock

A battery that can't hold voltage under load may show as charged, then shut down on start.

3. Charging errors

Repeated charging error codes can come from the battery, contacts or dock — a diagnostic tells them apart.

4. Swelling or heat

Stop using the robot immediately if the case bulges or the battery gets hot. Bring it in; we recycle damaged cells safely.

5. Age

Most batteries last 2–3 years of daily cleaning. A quality replacement typically costs far less than a new robot.
