A 10-minute monthly maintenance routine for your robot vacuum

Most robot vacuum breakdowns we see are caused by buildup that could have been prevented. Here's the routine we recommend to every customer.

A 10-minute monthly maintenance routine for your robot vacuum

Weekly

  • Empty the bin and tap out the filter.
  • Pull hair off the main brush with the cleaning tool.

Monthly

  • Wipe cliff sensors and the front bumper window with a dry microfiber cloth.
  • Remove side brushes and clear hair from the shafts.
  • Check the wheels for wrapped thread and spin them by hand.
  • Wipe the dock charging contacts.

Every 6–12 months

  • Replace the filter and side brushes.
  • Inspect the main brush for worn bristles.
  • Watch run-time: if it has dropped by a third, the battery is likely aging.

When to call a pro

Grinding noises, repeated wheel errors, or a robot that circles in place usually mean a mechanical part has worn out. A diagnostic can save you from buying a new unit.
